Habanero Honey Popcorn Cauliflower

Updated: May 6, 2020

Ingredients:

1 head of cauliflower, cut into bite size florets

For the batter --

1 cup all purpose flour

1 tsp salt

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp cayenne

1 tsp paprika

1 tsp cumin

½ tsp turmeric

½ tsp ground black pepper

½ tsp chili peppers flakes

1 ½ cup milk or unsweetened milk alternative

1 egg

2 cups oil for frying - I use sunflower

The sauce --

1 tbsp unsalted butter

1 tsp chili pepper flakes

2 cloves garlic, finely minced or pressed

2 habanero peppers, finely minced ( optional )

½ cup Honey Llama Farms Habanero Honey, or any honey will work

How To:

  1. Cut cauliflower in half, remove stalk, and begin cutting florets into bite size pieces.

Prepare the batter for frying your cauliflower --

  1. Combine flour, salt and all of your spices in a medium bowl. Add in milk and egg. Whisk to combine till most clumps are gone and it has the consistency of pancake batter.

  2. Add oil to the skillet over medium heat - check that oil has reached desired temperature by dripping some of your batter into oil. It should start to instantly sizzle.

  3. Add cauliflower into batter in small batches so everyone gets a thick coating. Using a fork to remove and place into frying oil.

  4. Fry on each side for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown.

  5. Remove from oil and allow excess oil to drain on a wire rack over a paper towel.

  6. Once all cauliflower is removed, allow to cool while sauce is prepared.

That sauce tho --

  1. In a saucepan over medium low heat, add unsalted butter, chili pepper flakes, garlic, habanero

( <<optional for that extra kick ) and honey.

2. Stir everything till well combined. Let sit off heat for 10 minute to allow flavors to fully merge together.

3. Toss cauliflower in your sauce until ooey-gooey happiness levels are achieved.

4. Serve immediately.
